Critical instrumentation and control systems in hazardous areas cannot afford uncontrolled shutdowns during power loss events. The RCP Hazardous Area UPS delivers continuous, uninterrupted power supply rated for Zone 1 IIB+H2 explosive atmospheres, with ATEX/IECEx certified 2.5kVA online UPS units available in 120VAC and 230VAC, configurable standby time from 5 minutes to over an hour, and parallel or redundant configurations up to 7.5kVA for increased capacity and reliability.

Power interruptions in hazardous area control and instrumentation systems carry consequences that extend well beyond equipment downtime — uncontrolled shutdowns in Zone 1 explosive atmospheres create serious safety risk.

The RCP Hazardous Area UPS provides online, uninterrupted power supply rated for continuous Zone 1 IIB+H2 operation, with ATEX/IECEx certified enclosures, configurable battery standby from 5 minutes to over an hour, and parallel operation of up to three units delivering 7.5kVA total capacity for applications requiring higher power ratings or redundancy.

Oftentimes Instrumentation and Controls systems require an independent power supply, ensuring that the system would continue to operate or shut down in a controlled manner even in the event of main power loss.

Some control and instrumentation systems operating in Hazardous Areas may reach a configurational requirement, where the only suitable location for the UPS is in an hazardous area.

RCP has developed a standardised 2.5kVA online UPS solution, which provides an uninterrupted power supply in hazardous areas. The system is available in 120VAC and 230VAC voltages, 50/60Hz frequency range. The system is rated for continuous operation in Zone 1 Explosive Atmosphere. The system allows customisation of power independence from 5 minutes to an hour (dependent on battery bank size). Redundant or parallel configurations are possible, increasing the reliability or the power capacity. UPS system consists of at least one UPS unit and at least one Battery Enclosure, multi-unit interconnections are possible to increase the UPS power capacity or standby time.

In addition to the standardised solution, custom UPS variants are available. With the independence time, system layout and power rating being tailored to the technical requirements.
