Control System Modernisation
Ageing control platforms present increasing operational risk as hardware becomes obsolete, spare parts become unavailable and software loses vendor support. RCP specialises in replacing legacy PLCs, HMIs and associated field devices with modern, supportable alternatives — maintaining existing interfaces and operational workflows while improving diagnostics, data logging and long-term maintainability.
Where original documentation is unavailable, our engineers carry out full reverse engineering of existing system logic to ensure no loss of functionality during migration. Projects are scoped to minimise downtime, with factory acceptance testing completed at our workshops in Aberdeen or Singapore before offshore deployment.
BOP and Well Control Equipment
RCP engineers survey, refurbish and upgrade BOP control panels, choke consoles and associated well control instrumentation. Services include component replacement, hydraulic system overhaul, control logic updates and functional verification testing. Upgrades are designed to restore or improve system reliability while maintaining compliance with API and DNV operational standards.
Drilling Instrumentation and Safety Systems
Travelling block monitors, anti-collision systems, drilling instrumentation and safety-critical equipment require periodic upgrade to meet current standards and evolving operational demands. Hazardous Area Retrofitting
Retrofit work in classified hazardous areas requires careful engineering to maintain zone compliance throughout the modification process. RCP’s CompEx-accredited engineers manage the design, installation and verification of electrical and instrumentation upgrades in ATEX and IECEx environments, ensuring all work meets the IEC 60079 series requirements.
Services include hazardous area classification review, equipment selection, installation design and post-modification inspection and documentation. Where certification of existing installations is required, our engineers provide detailed area classification assessments and remediation recommendations.
Electrical and Control Panel Engineering
RCP designs and builds bespoke control panels, junction boxes, distribution boards and instrumentation enclosures for new-build and retrofit applications. All equipment is engineered to site-specific requirements and supplied with full certification documentation, wiring schedules and loop drawings. Panel modifications and upgrades are carried out at our workshop facilities in Aberdeen and Singapore before deployment offshore or to site, reducing installation time, minimising risk and providing a controlled environment for thorough pre-commissioning testing.
Scoping and Delivery
Retrofit and upgrade projects on operational assets demand precise scoping to address genuine risks without unnecessary equipment replacement. RCP works with operators and contractors to identify the most practical engineering solution for each installation, balancing compliance requirements, operational constraints and budget.
Our engineers have proven experience delivering upgrade projects under compressed timescales, including round-the-clock offshore mobilisations where operational windows are limited.
