RCP Delivers Bespoke Remote Environmental Monitoring System for Cold-Stacked Rig

Following a request from Ensco in February, RCP was set the challenge of supplying a humidity and fire detection unit for the Ensco 70, currently cold-stacked in Hartlepool. Ensco required the ability to monitor the system remotely — and the project was completed within three weeks of purchase order.

Within that short timeframe, RCP’s in-house engineers designed and built a full system using a solar panel for power, with battery back-up, to monitor relative humidity and smoke within the rig. Should any sensor be triggered, Ensco would receive both desktop and SMS notification, allowing immediate action to be taken.
Ensco provided the following feedback on the project:

“RCP provided us with a bespoke environmental monitoring system that was designed, installed, and commissioned within five weeks of initial contact. The delivered system exceeded our expectations and has been trouble-free throughout the first few months of operation. From initial contact to final delivery, the team at RCP provided exemplary support and communicated with us every step of the way. We look forward to working with them again in the future.”

RCP’s hazardous area solar power units are built to efficiently power electrical equipment and charge battery banks during daylight hours, with the battery bank sustaining power through darkness. Sophisticated charge controllers monitor and protect the battery bank to ensure optimum availability.

RCP Ex Solar Power Units are suited to a range of applications, including off-grid power for cold-stacked rigs, remote site security such as CCTV and lighting, remote monitoring and recording of sensors and instrumentation, and weather station or small base equipment. All units are designed and built to order, with RCP engineers discussing full requirements prior to design and supply. AC solar power units are available with GSM, Wi-Fi, and data recording capability.
